In solidarity with LSA’s Year of Sustainability, and to further the university-wide Vision 2034 initiative, this fall we’re offering free access to the audiobook and ebook editions of “Not Too Late: Changing the Climate Story from Despair to Possibility” (edited by Rebecca Solnit and Thelma Young Lutunatabua) to everyone in the State of Michigan.
Access the ebook and audiobook versions of “Not Too Late” from October 18 through December 13.
Why a community read
The goals of both the Year of Sustainability and the Vision 2034 Climate Action, Sustainability & Environmental Justice rely upon a community that’s informed on the issue and motivated to participate in discovering and implementing solutions. Our recommended Sustainability Resources help the campus community find the reliable data and information they need for their learning, teaching, and research.
“Not Too Late” is a resource anyone can use — from technical and policy experts to high school students to people who might just have begun to notice the impact of the climate crisis on their own lives. “It’s an invitation to everyone,” as the jacket reads, “to understand the issue more deeply, participate more boldly, and imagine the future more creatively.”
The book offers a wide range of perspectives from a variety of communities from around the world, who all have in common an unwillingness to accept prewritten narratives of climate despair.
How to access
From October 18 – December 13, anyone connected to the Internet in the State of Michigan can visit the Read Michigan website to access the ebook and audiobook editions of “Not Too Late.” You can read or stream on any browser, or use the BiblioBoard Library app (Apple, Google, and Kindle). Make sure you create an account (it’s free) if you want to resume your reading or listening from a previous session, create bookmarks, or take notes.
Current U-M faculty, students, and staff can always access the book from our collection.

“The book’s message of active optimism informed by diverse global experiences is an especially important one in this era of climate disruption and anxiety,” said Caitlin Jacobs, LSA’s Carbon Neutrality Program Manager. “Opportunities like this connect us and offer a common language to move forward — in our curriculum, spaces, and lives.”
