The 2024 Year of Sustainability has concluded, so what happens next?
We are so grateful for all of your support throughout 2024 and look forward to continuing this work with you in the years to come.
Want to learn more about what we were up to last year? Read our quarterly reports for more in-depth content. Look out for continuing quarterly reports throughout 2025 on what we’re doing and how to get involved!
Our 2024 Fall summit, DEI x Sustainability: For People + Planet, was heavily attended by the U-M community and we’re happy to share the resources! Below are graphic recordings, by Yen Azzaro, that recap each part of the summit. You can also watch and listen to the keynote and lightning talks. To hear community feedback read reports from LSA, the Michigan Daily, or the University Record.
In 2025, we will be transitioning out of the Year of Sustainability to LSA Sustainability, a unit in LSA that is your dedicated team to advancing unit-level sustainability that supports University-level sustainability goals.
For 2025, our goals are to:
- Interact more personally with individual units to understand their needs.
- Continue exploring the vast intersections of sustainability with the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities through outreach and educational opportunities.
- Continue to investigate operational and energy efficiencies, working with multiple campus partners.
- Launch a Sustainable Stockroom, where assigned LSA staff members can “shop” for office supplies.
- Continue to collaborate with the Office of Campus Sustainability on lab sustainability initiatives, including but not limited to; improving the Lab Swap Shop, incentivizing participation in the Freezer Challenge, and increasing the number of Sustainable Lab certifications.
